About Us
Lilliput Records is an independent locally owned record store focusing on new vinyl and cds, offering an ever growing pre-owned section. We also house stereo equipment and audio accessories. Our mission is to be a community based space, providing a safe place for all!
Jump to February 2022 when the chain recieved news that the stores would be liquidated after Mr. G's passing the previous November. Quickly, Assistant store manager (Tanner Musgrove) realized the best action we could take would be buying the inventory, which eventually snowballed into buying the building itself. Exclusive store manager (Brian Kirk) was on board shortly after and we got to work!
Established in 2022; though our story begins a few decades back, in 1956 when Mr. G opened the first Exclusive Company in West Bend, WI. As business grew, Mr. G decided to expand, opening stores in Oshkosh, Green Bay, Appleton, Janesville, Greenfield, Madison, Brown Deer and in 1990, the Milwaukee location where we now reside.
Why Lilliput?
The name Lilliput stems from the novel Gulliver’s Travels and references the island, Lilliput, and the Lilliputians who live there. We really like the idea of this fantasy island named Lilliput and working that in tandem with the idea of a record store being a place where you can come to escape in and lose yourself. I know that’s what music is for so many of us anyway. We also love the band Liliput, formerly known at Kleenex. The name is a way to pay homage to them but also post-punk bands in general because they’ve had a huge influence in both Brian’s and my life.

Tanner and Brian both worked at The Exclusive Company for years (5 for Tanner, 12 for Brian) before purchasing the inventory and building to start Lilliput Records!
